King Parrot, 1995, bronze
Gift of Dorothy Tremaine Hildt in memory of her son K. Bryant Wick, Jr.
Collection of The Society of the Four Arts, 2014.1
Jim Dine’s sculpture King Parrot, which depicts an Amazon Macaw perched on a large heart, was recently restored. The sunlight, heat, and salty, humid air of South Florida had caused its vibrant colors to fade. It was de-installed in February of 2020 and shipped to the Blue Mountain Fine Art Foundry in Baker City, Oregon, where Jim Dine performed the restoration work himself. After cleaning and sandblasting the sculpture, Dine applied a new patina and a layer of wax to protect it from the elements. It was shipped back and re-installed in the sculpture garden in October of 2020.
