Sior Maschera (Masked Man), 1990, bronze
Gift of Reginald B. Collier
Collection of The Society of the Four Arts, 2005.2
Artist Philip Jackson specializes in life-size sculptures of the human form with exaggerated, elongated limbs. According to the artist, his sculptures are “essentially an impressionistic rendering of the figure.” The Masked Man is from a series Jackson created in which all of the figures wear masks. The series was influenced by the Venetian Carnival, an annual festival held in Venice, Italy that is world famous for its ornate masks. ‘Sior’ is venetian dialect for ‘sijnor’.
